If a child or pet is inside
Call 911 first. A closed car in desert heat becomes dangerous within minutes. Do not wait for a lockout truck.
What to tell dispatch
- Where you are and whether the car is on private property.
- Make, model and year.
- Whether it uses a key, a fob or a phone key.
Expect to show ID
Whoever opens the car will want proof that it is yours, such as a registration or license that matches. Have them ready if you can reach them.
Please do not force it
Wedges and coat hangers can damage weather seals, wiring and door electronics. A spare key from home is often the cheapest fix if someone can bring it.
